Inaugural run Saturday, November 1, 20148:00 – 9:00 AM (rain or shine)Wissahickon Valley Park

This running group is open to anyone who wants to get or stay sober. We are a group of recovering people who enjoy running with others in recovery. We welcome beginning and experienced runners. No matter how fast or slow you go, you will not run alone! The point is fellowship and healthy living in sobriety.

Meet at Northwestern Avenue and Forbidden Drive in the Wissahickon Valley Park, near Northwestern Avenue and Germantown Avenue, Chestnut Hill.

We will start promptly at 8:00 AM and break into two groups:Beginning runners: gentle warm up, then a 1-mile run at a slow pace, then stretching and talking about beginning a running routine.  Experienced runners: up to 5-mile run on packed gravel (round trip to Valley Green Inn and back on Forbidden Drive) at an easy pace.

When both groups are back together at the start, we will have a few minutes of open sharing, followed by a traditional closing. Afterwards, Bruno’s Restaurant (Northwestern Avenue and Germantown Avenue) is a great place for fellowship over coffee or breakfast, at your own cost.  Contact LetsRunSober@gmail.com

    From the mailbag:

    --------------------------------------

    Hello Ambler Area Running Club,

Hope this finds you very well!

Are you or any runners you know planning for the Broad Street Run (May 4th, 2014)? If so, we are pleased to share this exciting opportunity with you:

Don’t just run in the park, run FOR it!

The Fairmount Park Conservancy is offering GREAT perks (VIP packet pick up at Philadelphia Runner in Center City, 10% off at Philadelphia Runner from Feb 1-May 5, a ticket to our 2014 GLOW in the Park event and FPC Membership, and MORE) along with guaranteed entry into the Broad Street Run for all of our participating Park Champion runners.

Funds raised will go directly into the restoration and improvement of the historic Belmont Plateau trails that have been so important to so many runners over the last several decades.

We invite you to join our team and help us spread the word with your community. Please let me know if you have any questions at all!

Thanks so much and have a lovely weekend!
    Sara

PS – In case you’re new to us, The Fairmount Park Conservancy works as a collaborative partner to lead and support efforts which preserve and improve the Fairmount Park system in order to enhance the quality of life and stimulate economic development of the Greater Philadelphia Region. These efforts include capital projects, neighborhood park stewardship and programs throughout the 10,200 acres of Fairmount Park. Learn more about what we do here.

    Greetings,

I am a member of a Team in Training team running and fundraising for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. We are hosting a Virtual Race to raise money towards our team fundraising goal of $50,000. All participants will receive a medal (the photo is above). I am contacting you to see if you and members of the Ambler Area Running Club would be interested in participating.

We would appreciate your sharing this event with your readers/subscribers/mailing list/facebook fans. If you wish to form a team and have your own specific web address for registration, please email me at relentless4raegan@gmail.com. We are encouraging participants to create teams to honor the memory of a loved one lost to cancer or to virtually connect with a team who cannot physically run/hike/bike/walk together, but would love to do so virtually.

Below is a short blurb you can post, or write your own:
Team in Training team Relentless 4 Raegan is hosting a Virtual Race to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Register online for $30 at http://relentless4raegan.pulsemob.com/team/18706/r4rvirtualrace.

Thanks for your help! If you have any questions, please contact me at either this email or the one mentioned above.

    Go Team!
    Lynette Austin
