Greetings Ambler Area Running Club!
On March 29, 2017, I was proud to be elected as your President for a third year!! (It doesn't matter how many others ran, any more than it matters when you win your age bracket in a race).
The first 100 days of my third term will end on 7/7, and I have a full agenda for the year. For those who might wonder what I did the last two years, I say, "looking backwards is pessimistic!" We are looking forward!!
Every so often, there is an incident involving a runner hit by a car. Most (or all) of us don't think about it happening to us. Let's not wait for the next incident before we take measures to protect ourselves. We will try to increase the use of Road IDs and publish a safety tip every month on the club's web site.
Reduce Disposable-Bottle Use
Sure, one running club won't make a significant difference to the world's pollution problem, but disposable plastic bottles never degrade. The Board will encourage club members to bring their reusable bottles (we all have them, right?) and water will be available to fill them, along with paper cups.
Destination Race Raffle
Many of us travel to a distant race, and that means hotel bills, transportation costs, meals, and of course, the race registration fee. How great would it be to have up to $1,500 of your expenses paid by your running club??
The board is considering offering a raffle, where members can buy tickets at $20 each (maximum 5 per person), for a chance to win that top prize. We view this as an excellent opportunity to promote our members' running achievements, as part of AARC's mission. More details will follow.Jeff Lofton, President
