Committees are essential to the success of our club. They provide members with opportunities to get involved, contribute their skills and ideas, and help shape the club’s activities and direction. Serving on a committee is a meaningful way to support the club, connect with other members, and experience a sense of accomplishment. Opportunities to participate include:
Running & Racing
Mission: Organize group runs and race participation to support members’ training, performance, and enjoyment of running.
Responsibilities:
- Host weekly Fun Runs
- Schedule and host monthly Traveling Fun Runs and occasional bike rides
- Coach track workouts during warmer months
- Register teams for Broad St. and other races
- Organize transportation to area races.
Social
Mission: To build camaraderie and community by creating fun, inclusive and welcoming social experiences that help members connect, feel supported, and enjoy being part of the club.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and host non-running events such as the summer picnic, W(h)ine and Cheese and holiday party.
- Provide refreshments for general membership meetings and other events as requested.
Membership
Mission: To recruit, welcome, and retain members, encourage the return of lapsed members, and support club operations by staffing committees with engaged volunteers.
Responsibilities:
- Contact new members and welcome them to the club. Help them familiarize themselves with club communications and activities.
- Contact current members once or twice each year to make sure they're aware of and participating in the club's offerings.
- Provide matchmaking service to runners looking for training partners.
- Assist website users registering for membership or events.
- Respond to emails addressed to membership@aarclub.com
- Maintain membership directory (profile, group participation etc.)
Communications
Mission: Ensure timely, accurate, and engaging communication that keeps members informed, connected, and engaged with club activities, programs, and events.
Responsibilities:
- Post photos & articles authored by club members to the club web site, photo repository and social media sites.
- Maintain the club event calendar
- Curate, edit and publish weekly emails to members.
- Publish periodic emails to broader running community.
- Publish press releases to local media.
- Coordinate club messaging across all communication channels.
Sponsorship
Mission: Builds and manages partnerships with local businesses to generate funding for race beneficiaries and charity partners.
Responsibilities:
- Identify and secure sponsors to support club races and charity beneficiaries
- Build and maintain relationships with local businesses and community partners
- Coordinate sponsor recognition before, during, and after events
- Help set policy with respect to donations and promotions
- Track sponsorship commitments and ensure funds are delivered to club. Send thank you note upon reception.
- Invite sponsors to Wine and Cheese and/or other recognition events
- Maintain sponsor database
Responsibilities of all committees
- Meet regularly, in person or virtually, to coordinate activities.
- Report status at club board meetings and general membership meetings.
- Provide content for the club website and weekly emails.
