Bike Ride to the Bike Race

The Philadelphia Cycling Classic returns to Philadelphia after a 10 year absence. The professional road race features a 14.4-mile circuit, highlighted by the brutal 17%-grade Manayunk Wall climb.  We will take a leisurely 9.5-mile ride to Manayunk on the Mid-County Trail and Schuylkill River Trail to have breakfast and watch three laps of the  Women's Race.

We'll meet in the Lowes parking lot on Chemical Road in Plymouth Twp at 8:00 AM and depart shortly thereafter.  Note that the SRT is unpaved for the two miles between Shawmont Ave and Manayunk. If you prefer to ride on pavement and don't mind a couple of hills, Umbria St. is a viable alternate route.

There is a tradition among the local Manayunk residents to say "Good luck in the race today" to anyone wearing cycling clothes and walking their bike along the course.  You may also be asked "What's it called when they all ride together in a group?"
